Tours Tasmania Port Arthur Day Tour
Help code: 3410-26B7
Make an early start from Hobart and drive directly to the stunning Tasman Peninsula. This area has amazing history, fascinating stories, and spectacular scenery. It is also home to Australia’s highest sea cliffs. Enjoy the panoramic views of the area from Pirates Bay Lookout which provides a great vantage here of the surrounding area.
Passing through Eaglehawk Neck and “The Dogline” your Guides will share with you some amazing history and stories of the area.
Your next adventure is one of Tasmania’s “Great Short Walks”. Follow a spectacular track, of around 2 km’s along the Waterfall Bay cliff top. The walk takes around 45-60 minutes, is undulating, but categorised as an easy walk. The track concludes at the remarkable rock formations of Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen.
Continuing your journey, arrive at the Port Arthur Historic Site. There is a wealth of information and history to take in and you will have ample time to explore and discover the nooks and crannies with around 4 hours on site. Your entry includes a complimentary Harbour Cruise around the Isle of the Dead and a guided walking tour with one of the Site’s expert guides. Discover the grim and violent history of the early Australian Penal system and get a sense of the isolation experienced by the convicts in this “inescapable prison”.
Returning to Hobart, travel via the historic township of Richmond. Arriving late the in the afternoon, you will have time to meander the streets, stop for a coffee, visit the Lolly Shop, Chocolatier and walk across Australia’s oldest bridge still in use – a convict built sand-stone bridge, reported to be haunted!
Finally, before arriving in Hobart, stop for a fabulous view across Hobart from a local lookout. A picturesque way to return to the city, arriving back around 6.00pm.
“ What a day! Had so many stops at beautiful locations on the way there and back! The Unzoo was amazing. Was lucky enough to feed some birds and kangaroos. Port Arthur was a beauty. Spent just enough time there. Audrey was the best tour guide! Thank you.
Small group in a twelve seater bus. Friendly, knowledgeable driver/guide. Enough time to enjoy everything in the tour, particularly at Port Arthur. Stop for photos and cliff top walk on the way was very good. Included short cruise was a good opportunity to see Port Arthur from water. Good value for a full day out.

3 years agoThe tour itself was great and our guide Clint was the best! He was very knowledgeable and added a lot of context to all the places that we visited. My only criticism would be is that there was to much time spent at Port Arthur. We had 4 hours which was to much time and we got really impatient at the end. Would recommend to the optional Tassie Devil Unzoo if you can - it would break up the day better and you would then only have 2 hours at Port Arthur (which is still plenty of time).
4 years agoWe started out early with pick up from our Hotel. It was a little cloudy but a nice day. Our tour manager was young, polite and enthusiastic and so informative. The tour to Port Arthur and other sights were really great and we saw a lot along the way including a quick detour to the Port Arthur Lavender Farm which was really nice. The historic and natural wonders of the area were really interesting. The walk along the cliffs on the Peninsula was a good exercise with lots of photos taken of the scenery. It was good to stop off at historic Richmond on way back too. The bus was full and it was a little bit squashy at the front of the bus as I did not have much leg room but managed to put one leg up on the middle console. The bus air conditioner was not very good so may need a service. Other than that we had a great day and saw a lot.
5 years agoExcellent! Tour guide David was funny, informational, energetic! The tour was great! Gets to meet great people! Stunning scenery!
5 years agoFrom beginning to the end of the day, our guide and driver never ceased to amaze us with his in-depth knowledge of the State and local knowledge both past and present. A really awesome full and fun day.
5 years agoWe had a fabulous day with Dave being our guide for the day. He was very knowledgeable and nothing was too hard for him. He gave us a lot of information about the places we visited. I would highly recommend this tour.
6 years agoThe trip was amazing. David, the driver was very inviting and caring. He gave us lots of explanation and information on the way which made us know Hobart a lot more. The scenery in the peninsula was gorgeous and the visit to the lavender farm was beautiful. The time in Port Arthur could be longer as it was a bit rush to cover the tour guide's introductory session and the cruise and our own stroll. But David told us what to do first so we didn't miss a lot. Definitely, a tour that first-time visitors to Hobart should do. We love the last stop up in the hill for a great view of Hobart as a fulfilling finale to the trip.
6 years agoDan, our guide was young & fresh & full of knowledge about the tour & local history. It was a great trip & full of unexpected bonuses. I had a lot of fun meeting new & interesting people on the way. I would highly recommend taking the tour because we learned a whole bunch more than going it alone.
6 years ago“Explore Port Arthur and the Tasman Peninsula with this full day tour from Hobart combining history, nature and breathtaking scenery! You can also visit Tasmanian Devil Unzoo for extra $10pp. This is payable on the day of your tour.”
